Monaco will kick off their 2025 match program in the French league with an away game against Nantes. The "Royal Club" failed to secure the Super Cup against PSG last week, but they should find a lot of success in attack against the underdog’s unstable defense.
Last weekend, Nantes miraculously held on to a draw away at Lille (1:1), managing only two shots on target while having 29% possession. Under Kombouaré's management, the team relies on a counter-attacking style; however, without the injured Kaderabek, they are left with only two viable forwards. According to xPTS, the "Canaries" have dropped six points — instead of battling relegation, they should be positioned in mid-table, but constant points losses have hindered their rise.
Despite Marseille's explosive attack, Monaco remains PSG's main competitor in the title race, even though the Parisians have opened up a 10-point lead. The Monégasques boast the second-best attack in France based on xG (33.11), and in the Super Cup, they lacked the concentration in the closing stages to contain Dembélé and enter a penalty shootout (goalkeeper Kévin made nine saves). Away from home, the "Royal Club" has taken 13 points—only two teams perform better on the road.
Since March 2022, Monaco has consistently scored 2 or more goals in five encounters with Nantes (three of which ended in victories for the Monégasques). We anticipate the guests will achieve a positive result against this relegation-threatened side.
